Salad for 8
March 26, 2005

"Hello?"

"Are you feeling better?"

"I am, thank you. Still a bit..."

"Are you better enough to make food for me?"

"Well I hadn't..."

"You're not catering tonight, are you?"

"I personally am not. But we have a drop, yes."

"What about tomorrow?"

"No. Tomorrow is Easter. It's a family day."

"Ok because I am having an emergency!"

"What is..."

"I was invited to spend Easter with Friends and they have asked that I bring a salad. I'm not good with salads!"

"What kind of..."

"It's my choice. I want something different, something wonderful."

"How many people are we talking?"

"8."

"Excuse me?"

"8 people. I know that's a lot of food on short notice."

"Um. Well. Really not. But only 8 people?"

"Only? Ok. Phew! That means it won't be any trouble."

"Well I ..."

"Can I pick it up in the morning or would tonight be better?"

*sigh*

Seems like one of those sample role playing questions you might get at a seminar or something.

Choose one of the following responses;

A. Ahhh no I'm sorry we we're on our way out of town, promised my husband we would take a trip to (insert lovely location). But if you go to Epicurious.com they have a wonderful collectoin of salads for you to make.

B. Well you know I don't think it would be a good idea for me to handle food with my INFECTION still hanging on, especially a salad, and I gave all my staff the day off as it IS a FAMILY DAY and NOT a work day.

C. How pathetic are you that you can't throw a salad together for 8?! Sit down and watch PBS on a Saturday morning.

D. OK but that's going to run you right around $25 per person.

E. Hang up and skip town for three days.

-Unbelievable

What are you making?

Unreal. I hope you really soak her for this one. (Ten bucks says it's the same lady who wanted you to make dinner - or hors d'oeuvres -for 8 a month or so ago.)

Do you deliver?

'Cause I could really use a nice salad right now and I don't feel like getting off my fat arse and chopping my own veggies.

You will all be happy to know that by the time the phone call ended, the answer was no. I explained to her the risks of all the bacteria in my head.

I think it freaked her out.

Worked like a charm. ;-)
