My Boogie Shoes
June 27, 2005

I sort of have this problem when it comes to shoes. The Friend in Alabama says it's a disease. I say it's a rite to womanhood and a necessity for true happiness in life...along with good bread, dark chocolate, kalamata olives, and lemon drops. (And not necessarily in that order.)

Anyway - I have lots and lots of shoes.

I am really fussy about the shoes I wear when I Trick or work The Restaurant. There has to be a balance of support and "squishiness", with the right amount of non-skid going on. As you know, slipping is one of the many talents I hold in my resume'.

I've run the cycle of shoes and have tried about every chef clog on the market. The last pair I owned were good but they were way to industrial looking and I want something with a little spunk.

So while out and about shopping the other day I ran across these bad boys:

I got myself some Crocs. And oh my God are they the most comfortable shoes - ever. Ever! Now, the holes on top do present a slight issue when it comes to spilling large vats of scalding liquids on my feet - which I often do - so I have ordered another pair, sans holes. But in the mean time, I am the new and improved Mario Batali.

Well, without all the money.

And the baldness.

And the international cookbooks, tv shows, overall fame.

And, you know, I have breasts.

OK, this is WAY too weird.

One of my really good friends just accepted a job with Crocs -- I'd never even heard of them, and all of a sudden today starts and ends with Crocs.

They have a pair of flip-flops that I really want.

Did you get the orange ones? I'm assuming so with the Mario reference. THESE ARE GREAT!!!! You are going to just love them and your feet will love you! Did you get the ones without holes in orange as well?

awww, man, I wish I'd known about these before I blew a gazillion dollars on Danskos. *need more shoes now*

They are wonderful for the beach and gardening, too. I just found them too.

Posted by: sandy at June 28, 2005 09:31 AM

Are they much cheaper than Danskos?

I would think you'd want the holes for ventilation. Course, sweaty, stinky feet are no match for scalding oil. Will they melt? I'm a Birkenstock fan myself, for over 10 years. Let me know how you like these--I could be converted.

I'm a total evangelist for my Sanitas shoes, 15 hours at a time and my feet merely tingle, not ache.... and I swear they save my back. but I'd be interested in how these hold up under the same circumstances. let us know!

Holes are not good for the kitchen. Scalding liquids are way, way bad. Been there, done that, am glad that I had shoes with no holes.

But they are super-cool looking. Report back, wouldja please? I love my two pair of Danskos and mulitple pairs of Birks. I practically live in those two brands. But orange shoes are awfully damned cool....

Wow, my Danskos have been working for me for years now....but ya gotta love the cool colors!

Me thinks I must go check out the website for Crocs.

Orange is a cool shoe color....provided you don't have size 12 feet. Then you look like yer wearing clown shoes :(

No holes in a hot and dangerous kitchen. And the styles sans holes don't come in orange. So the orange is for days I am kitchen-bound during a trick and all of the heavy prep is out of the way.

And they also make a very fashionable statement at the grocery store. It's just one more reason for people to stare.

I will let you know how they hold up. Right now they are my favorite thing. The fact that they are so light weight is fabulous.

I am a shoe ho too. Love shoes. You should try Keens. I had the Dansko too. These are much more comfortable.

I'm a server, and one day a nurse came in to the restaurant with those on, and she was very keen on them...after wearing my cons all this time, I'm almost willing to look past their visual clunkiness...

As far as the breasts go, so does he.
