I Want To Be Like Her When I Grow Up
October 20, 2005

Sweet Sadie wanted to meet me at the Tea Shop down the street from the place she practices yoga 2 days a week.

When I met her she was still aglow with the sweat of all that stretching. And she was in the middle of what sounded like juicy gossip on her cel phone.

She's planning a birthday party for a friend - girls only - and she's wanting it to be over the top.

So we discussed food options and drink options and all points in between, when Sweet Sadie leaned in close.

"Will you be able to get a cute young man to serve cocktails?"

"You want a cute young man to serve cocktails?"

"Honey - we may be crazy old broads, but we're not dead." And she lifted her eyebrow and tilted her head in a way I would imagine got her whatever she wanted in life.

The birthday party is for Sweet Sadie's friend Etta - the baby of the group.

This will be Etta's 85th birthday.

That is beautiful. I imagine having wonderful clients like that makes up for some of the others you have to put up with!

Until you mentioned ages, I totally thought you were really tricking for Samantha from Sex in the City. This is Samantha in about 40 more years, huh?
Gee. my excessive TV watching is showing isn't it?

Definately two cute men, but you know, three -is- a magic number.

;-)

Sweet Sadie reminds me of my Gram, except Gram didn't do yoga. She lived on coffee, chocolate and cigarettes and told funny stories.

It would so be worth it to be pay out of your own pocket to get some Chippendales guys to serve cocktails.

That's fucking AWESOME.

And reminds me of my mom's little circle. They all had their first lemon drops at my mom's 60th.

fabulous! thanks for starting our weekends off with such a great story. I can't wait to hear about this party! I hope you get lots of cuties who will flirt with Sadie and Etta and all their friends!

that is so excellent. it reminds me of this summer when my husband's 87 year old grandmother asked me to help her with some shopping for a dinner party. she didn't want help with the food, rather she wanted me to drive her to the sex shop so she could get some "novelities".

I have a cute young man I could lend you. He's very charming, and women love him. In any event, he'd be young to a bunch of 85 year olds.

I hope I'm still kicking up at 85!
