Ohhhh the hate mail I have recieved.

Honesty, it seems is a bitch.

And apparently so am I, according to 34 people across the globe. Which, when you think of the actual global population, that's really pretty good.

Try to remember - I speak tonge-in-cheek. While I do speak the truth, I also speak it with humor.

Anyone who works with or for the public has their own dynamic, their own way of dealing with things. The Flower Shop friend would gladly throttle 6 out of every 10 people who walk through her door. So many people are rude, they are demanding, and they expect everything for nothing.

The Densist Friend has stories upon stories.

The School principal friend has enough material for 5 blogs.

The Physical Therapist Friend calls me once a week just to vent.

So it's not just "Crass head-to-big for a normal hat bitches" (a direct quote from e-mail #8 today) like me who have thes opinions - there's more like me on every corner.

I don't speak for all, however. Just for me and those who work with me. So for the Lady in Topeka, please don't take it out on your local steakhouse.

If it makes any of you feel better, the swearing from the walk-in cooler I described was me. I dropped a gallon of buttermilk.

Don't change!! We love you down here in South Carolina!

Posted by: Rene at October 27, 2005 10:42 AM

Ditto

Posted by: Tatyana at October 27, 2005 11:02 AM

Oh, no.

I won't be changing. ;-)

Posted by: the Food Whore at October 27, 2005 11:04 AM

Oh geez. Don't people have better things to do? LOL

I say you publish the hate mail in a new category titled 'Comment Cards' or 'Mailbag' or something! LOL

For what it's worth, yesterday's entry could have been written by me when I worked at Sears Auto Center. We were THE SAME WAY! Actually, that's the attitude in MOST public places like that. lol

Posted by: Echo at October 27, 2005 11:05 AM

Ah, Beloved Whore--don't let it get you down. Every bit of hate mail you get is just new material for you to write about. I think that you should post them--remove the names and other such information--and let folks see the flames that others spew to you.

And then let us make fun of them, as is extremely right and proper, and then maybe the asshats of the world who send flames will think twice before being nasty to someone else via email.

Keep it up! We love you here in Ohio!

Some people need to get real. My husband works in the automotive industry.. I can't tell you how many times he's been home very late because some jerk shows up 3 minutes to closing and expects his timing belt to be changed *that day*.

Some people need to remember that those who work in any type of "service industry".. be it food service, auto service, flower shops, etc.. They all have lives, too. They have family waiting at home for them, usually with dinner getting cold. Be considerate of others.. if a place CLOSES at a certain time, that means it CLOSES. You shouldn't be there. Don't walzt into a place and expect the world ten minutes before closing. They have a life to.. and it doesn't revolve around YOU. (you directed at hate mail writers)

And what's more.. this is The Food Whore's blog.. I do believe she's entitled to write whatever the hell she wants in here. I'm pretty sure SHE is the one who owns this site.

For what it's worth, I think your blog is awesome, and I crack up every single time I read it.

Posted by: Marie at October 27, 2005 11:53 AM

Dear FW - To cop a phrase from a popular song, "Don't go changing...." You spoke out for everyone of us that works in ANY kind of public service area. DH work's at an RV dealership and it's amazing the number of people that come in on any given day right at closing and expect to be shown EVERYSINGLEONEOFTHEM!!!!!

Ah well, nothing will change just feels good to know that there are others out there just like us.

Keep up the good work and sorry about the buttermilk.

Posted by: LeAnne at October 27, 2005 12:01 PM

Barbara, I usually agree with you...but this time I don't know. There's a tiny mean part of me that says they should be publicly named and shamed WITH the email address so that the rest of us can express our feelings to them personally.

But admittedly that would be mean.

But they would deserve it.

Please, FW, don't let this affect your output in any way shape or form. I assure you that the negative mail you'd get if you changed or stopped would completely swamp the number of idiots writing you at the moment!

Posted by: Meg at October 27, 2005 12:02 PM

You are hysterical. I work retail. I feel your pain, sister.

Posted by: Janis at October 27, 2005 12:07 PM

Nope, have to disagree -- you are not a bitch, just very honest. When I worked in restaurants and people would walk in at 10 minutes to close, you know there was frustration all around! I had usually already worked 14 hours that day and adding another hour was not something I enjoyed.

Posted by: Rebecca at October 27, 2005 12:18 PM

I think they should be posted on your blog under Mail Call.... simple minds, I swear. I've worked in the service industry....and technically still do. (small medical office) I could really strangle some people. but you put on your "happy" face and deal... then cuss them out once they're gone!!! LOL

Posted by: Nerwen at October 27, 2005 12:23 PM

Love your site, maybe you can throw this at them.

I work in a restaurant. I am a server (the face of the restaurant). I'm one of those people who HATE those who come in fifteen before close. I like to be finishing my last table at that time. I empathize with you, and to all those who don't understand, you can walk a mile in my worn out slip resistant shoes.

Posted by: Danny in OKC at October 27, 2005 01:21 PM

For every nasty email, you have at least 10-20 people who adore you and your sense of humor. I look forward to hearing the latest goings on or "what an idiot" story everyday.

Posted by: Jen at October 27, 2005 01:24 PM

Why don't these people write their own blogs? Honestly, some people don't get up in the morning unless they've got something to complain about.

I personally think you are hilarious. You are salty and frankly the world needs more saltiness.

Posted by: Genny at October 27, 2005 02:28 PM

One more here that loves you... and if I were American, I'd vote for you for President :)

Posted by: wilsonian at October 27, 2005 02:40 PM

Heh. And here I've refused to go to a restaurant simply because they were within 20 minutes or so of closing time because it was almost closing time.

As for the complainers.. there's always that handy little 'X' up in the corner of their browser. Or the back button. Or they could type in another website and never return to yours. But maybe that's too thoughtful and creative.

Posted by: Amy at October 27, 2005 02:43 PM

I'm TOTALLY with Barbara. Post 'em. Let us respond to the hate mail for you because we care and we honestly don't understand why anyone would take the time to write you hate mail in the first place!

IT'S A BLOG, PEOPLE!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT IS SAID, HIT THE 'NEXT BLOG' BUTTON!!
Am I right here? Yeesh!

Posted by: mandy at October 27, 2005 02:44 PM

I love your blog! You make me laugh out loud - and reallize that sometimes all work sucks, just in different ways.

Posted by: Karen at October 27, 2005 03:59 PM

All of this reminds of me a funny sit that I love. Its called www.customerssuck.com

;) You rock Food Whore.

Posted by: Jenwee at October 27, 2005 04:06 PM

Hey...It's your blog right? I love it, retired from a grocery store...ya know the rest Iam sure. You tell it however ya want and I'll read every blog!!!!

Posted by: Donna at October 27, 2005 04:33 PM

Here Here Amy. The backbutton or X should be reintroduced to these people. I think I mentioned a similar type thing before here or maybe elsewhere that no one is forcing these people to read this blog. If they don't like it, they can leave. Lots of people do this every day.
I'm a fan, FW, and have been loving your entries since late July. Don't let these buggers get you down. There are so many more of us that relish your take on life. Three Cheers for Food Whore!

Posted by: Rissa at October 28, 2005 06:23 AM

Good grief - they're flaming you for what you wrote in your blog?

Probably because they're the kind of people who believe they can Do No Wrong and the world is there to serve them and their every whim. You know, the kind of person who has never worked in a service industry at all and is guilty of the well done steak order at 5 minutes 'til closing.

Posted by: Alida at October 28, 2005 07:27 AM

I have always enjoyed your humor and your wit and the way you find to make even the most soul sucking event your victory. I have little patience for the fake people in life that want us to take it all so so seriously. Screw them and pass me a cocktail please.

Posted by: Riffraff at October 28, 2005 08:10 AM

Love your blog. I have a relative who does exactly what you do and he could contribute to just about every one of your posts! Those 34 people should shut up and learn to appreciate good food and what it takes to serve it up. Without you we'd all be forced to eat Big Macs every day. No thanks!

Posted by: offonoff at October 28, 2005 12:58 PM

Amy ~ those same people who do not know how to hit that "x" in the upper right corner are probably the same people that expect the gubmint to decide what their kids can watch on TV rather than turn the damn thing off.

Morons.

Posted by: HomefrontSix at October 31, 2005 12:41 AM

Oh, how I long for hate mail.

Don't change a thing.

Last minute diners drove me up a tree when I was a lowly waitress in college.

Aside: I emailed you in August or September about my son's Christening brunch--you responded kindly. The brunch went well and the price was excellent. The food was to-die-for.

Posted by: Heels at October 31, 2005 08:14 AM

I used to live close to Topeka. The place is an absolute pit. If I lived there I would hate myself. So maybe the person from there who sent you the hate mail is turning their self-loathing against you.
How juvenile.
