I have a recipe plea. I think we're all pretty clear on the fact that I suck the big rotten egg when it comes to actually posting recipes, but I am hoping someone will help a girl out. I do want to say, however, that I am in the process of writing up a few requested recipes. Look for them sometime in '07. Really. A friendly reader e-mailed and asked if I knew of the recipe for the New York Lemon Drop. And I am stumped on this one. I know of my favorite lemon drop recipe, but have not heard of the New York version. Which I do imagine to be very edgy, funky, fun, fantastic, and perhaps have a huge pastrami sandwich floating on top. (I kid. I am fascinated with the city. And pastrami, actually.) Never heard of it either, but I googled it and found the following. Looks like it's the NY version because you can make it in a New York minute: N.Y. Lemon Drop They lost me at the sour mix. Looks like the difference is Triple Sec and a splash of sprite.. and lime?? Not sure about lime for a *lemon* drop. But, here ya go. Mercer Kitchen's lemon drop martini 2-3 lemon wedges Put the lemon wedges and sugar in a mixing glass and muddle well. Add lime juice, simple syrup, vodka and triple sec. Pour into a shaker, add ice and shake vigorously. Strain mixture into a chilled, sugar-rimmed Martini glass. Top with sprite and garnish with a lemon wedge. Posted by: megwoo at November 14, 2005 10:57 AM I've never had a lemon drop that was a mixed drink at all. Here (here being Michigan) a lemon drop is a shot of vodka in a sugar rimmed shot glass served with a wedge of lemon. You bite the lemon right before taking the shot, or, if you're me, you squeeze it into the shot and drink it down that way. But I've never seen anyone else do that.
