December 29, 2005
Tricking during the holidays brings out a whole new kind of crazy. It's like when David Banner gets all kinds of ticked off and his eyes start to roll and his body starts to turn green and expand and rip the clothes right off his back. And then The Hulk starts running the streets all freaked out and throwing cars. But when I got to my car and ripped open the cookie and took a bite when... YUCK PTOOEY BLEH. It was Double Chocolate Chunk Cherry. I HATE chocolate and cherries together. Cherries belong in a Hostess Pie. They belong in a big bowl to be popped in your mouth for the Annual Whore Family Pit Spitting Contest. I DO NOT WANT THEM CHOPPED UP IN A CHOCOLATE COOKIE. YUCK PTOOEY BLEH! Poor bastard. But you know, I've become this cherry-raving lunatic (even more so than normal, I mean) because The Clients of this season have totally lost their freaking minds. Every last one of them. But the Brides - The Brides are THE worst! I have beat my head against my steering whell more times than I can count this week. JUST STOP CALLING ME.

I hate chocolate covered raisins...i hate raisins...i hate raisins...and to try to make them cool by covering them with chocolate? RIDICULOUS!!!! Posted by: crazee peep at December 29, 2005 03:29 PM Ditto what Crazee Peep says. Poo on the chocolate chunk cherry. Poo on the chocolate covered raisins. And poo on December brides. May they all get pregnant on their honeymoons and spend month #2 of married life queasy and ill. Ill and queasy, people! Whatsa matter with being a June bride? Posted by: wordgirl at December 29, 2005 04:47 PM I plan on getting married in the Winter because it's always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I'll try to remember not to have things under control enough so people aren't freaking out about cherries. :) Posted by: Anonymous at December 29, 2005 05:12 PM Yes, I'm dumb. That was supposed to say, "I'll try to remember to have things under control enough..." Sorry. Posted by: Dumb Anonymous at December 29, 2005 05:13 PM Aw, c'mon -- mess with 'em a bit. Tell 'em you even cook the steak tartare. See what happens. Posted by: Peggy at December 29, 2005 05:33 PM Ok, apparently I did it all wrong :). I was married Dec. 2nd, 2000. And yes, I had enough twinkle lights and christmas trees to put the north pole to shame. But, I didn't even consider harassing the caterer, florist, DJ, etc. I figured they knew what they were doing better than I did. In the week before the wedding, I think I only called the caterer once to confirm the number. Little did I know I was supposed to call 10 times a day LOL. Oh and wordgirl, 5 years...not pregnant yet. But I did get the flu the day we left on our honeymoon, so that probably had something to do with it LOL. Posted by: Ellen at December 29, 2005 06:40 PM But the Brides - The Brides are THE worst! And we wonder why guys want to marry guys in Canada. ;) Posted by: Tony at December 29, 2005 07:55 PM Thanks for the laugh! I love your blogs! The next time you have to cater to Bridezilla, frost something with a few chuncks of chocolate ex-lax.... Posted by: Dawn at December 30, 2005 06:55 AM Thanks for the story! I'm also glad to read the update on Bridezilla. My reception caterer came to me and freaked out because one of the ovens at the venue wasn't working and she wanted to know what she should do. I would have much rather had the Food Whore as my caterer. Posted by: Shrinking Violet at December 30, 2005 08:23 AM Love your blog. Just had to say hi. I too hate cherries other than fresh, or in a pie. But not mixed with chocolate or in ice cream. Blech. Happy New Year. Posted by: Ani at December 30, 2005 08:30 AM I support you totally up until the chocolate and cherries thing....gotta have my chocolate covered cherries and those new hershey's kisses that are choc/cherry.....orgasmic. Now then, I was going to call, but do you have me blocked..... Posted by: speckledpup at December 30, 2005 10:06 AM We had a legal two-bride wedding in August. And no that didn't mean Bridezilla times two--at least our friends and family tell us they had the best time (without being prompted). But, being in our 30s, paying for it mostly ourselves, doing all our own planning, and already being a step removed from the typical fantasies, we became really skilled at letting details go. Our approach: we need a place for people, we gotta feed them, everything else is just extra, and we'll only spend money, time and energy on extras that are personally important to us. The only reception decor I chose were cocktail animals (monkeys, mermaids) for the drinks. My spouse chose houseplants from Trader Joe's for each of the tables. That was it. Anyway, we did 80% of our communication with our caterers by email. I could drop little questions whenever they popped into my head, and they could respond when it was convenient for them. But most of my questions were things like: could you get extra linen napkins, and bring extra ice? The one argument I would have in favor of a holiday wedding is if your family is geographically scattered and if they would be traveling to be together anyway. As someone who lives 3,000 miles away from many close friends and family, it would be very handy for me to be able to combine a wedding and a holiday in one trip. Posted by: kaphine at December 30, 2005 10:39 AM You go right ahead and send ALLL those chocolate and cherries to ME. They are my favorite. They are like my own little bits of heaven. I was going to argue with you about the merits of a chocolate covered cherry, but why would I do that to you or to me? Just send them to me, and it'll all be ok. Posted by: Lil at December 30, 2005 01:26 PM Sorry for the December Brides. Posted by: Zin at December 30, 2005 03:06 PM Also not a big fan of dried cherries in a chocolate chip cookie. I don't think there is any dried fruit that I would find acceptable in a chocolate chip cookie. Now chocolate covered cherries on the other hand ... yum. Posted by: Chillygirl at December 30, 2005 05:07 PM 1. Told the hubby about Bridezilla & he couldn't figure it out. I guess there is some merit in waiting until you're a tad older to wed. I read your stories & cannot imagine such idoicy. (Them, not you, m'dear.) 2. Re Holiday weddings - I have a friend who married on 12/30 (years ago), in a town next to Pasadena. She couldn't figure out why it was so hard to get flowers - 2 days before the Rose Parade - in Pasadena. We picked Columbus Day weekend, figuring relatives in school/education, would be more likely to get the long weekend. 3. I like my chocolate straight myself. I have no "taste" & like milk chocolate over the current fav of dark chocolate. (I like white wine too, irregardless of what I'm eating. Gauche perhaps, but that's me.) But, if I'm going into choco-withdrawal & there's nothing but CCCs, I have been known to break down. But, it's gotta be pretty intense withdrawal. 4. Love your blog. Merry new year!! Posted by: V at December 31, 2005 06:51 PM I use to hate chocolate cherry, but after making a few chocolate cherry things for my husband and taking tastes here and there, the combo started to grow on me. Now I crave it. Those breakfast cookies look good. When I give up my "must have protein with breakfast" kick I'll have to try them. Posted by: Anna at January 1, 2006 10:26 AM I'll second the emotion. Got married NYE 1999...ever so romantic (wasn't Aspen-not that wealthy...but it was in the vicinity). But even if they sidestep the drama this poor woman put you through, they'll never get a sitter on their anniversary for the rest of their lives. That's a promise. Love reading your stuff FW. Posted by: Ei at January 4, 2006 12:06 PM I shot 3 weddings and 1 family portrait session this December and yes, oh yes, every single one involved a Christmas tree.
