Here It Starts
January 12, 2006

I got a frantic voice mail this morning.

I thought, perhaps, it was pertaining to tonight's trick.

But I was wrong.

It was a client desperate to get on the schedule for - are you ready?

May 13th.

Of 2007.

My advice? Tell her it's booked. That call has "Queen of Bridezilla" written aaaaaaallllll over it!

Oh, but it does sound a little like me. Love to PLAN!! Makes me feel accomplished. Just smile and nod when people like me call.

Holy Crap, girl! If that doesn't speak to your fabulousness, I don't know what would??!!

Damn, that's probably around when I graduate college and I have no idea what I'm doing. I probably should.

...Crap.

Well I'd say it was better than the people who leave it to 2 weeks before their Big Event(tm), except that this does leave you wide open for 16 months of panicky phone calls... Hmm. At least she recognises you are popular and she does well to book in advance though.

Dying of laughter.

This is why I *eat* the food rather than making it for others. Much lower chance of murder.

I hope you gave her a good, stern lecture on the perils of waiting until the last minute.

sounds like you are the shit.
nobody books a year in advance unless you are..the shit.

congrats.
But I'd tell her that you don't book more than a year in advance and then I wouldn't answer the phone the whole week of May13th....just fer fun.

I sew for weddings and won't book more than a year in advnace and make them sign an agreement about weight loss/gain and my costs to fix their changes. But I have had people call me on the exact date, one year from their wedding...dear lord.

I used to work for a guy who scheduled everything about 18 months in advance, it was just how busy he was. I once had a concierge tell me he might be dead by the time the date in question came around...my was "Okaaaay....any idea who might be replacing you?"

Agreeing with SpeckledPup, congrats on being "the shit."

sorry, I had to be totally anonymous on this one. I do makeup for film/TV/theater usually but got an unusual number of bridal referrals last year. I don't usually do brides, see: bridezilla, but some of them, as you know, can be totally delightful. I am glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets calls 16 months in advance! I just tell them I ccan't book more than 3 months in advance - it screens the neurotic ones out like a charm! they can't stand to wait that long. (mind you, I don't depend on brides for aliving, so it's easier for me....)

I went a little crazy getting the church I wanted AND the place I wanted AND the photographer AND the DJ I wanted, all on the same day. Some dj/photogs won't hold the date unless you give them money.

Then I relaxed for the rest of it all. Give her a chance.

I have decided that I love your blog almost as much as I love chocolate. That, my dear, is a great amount of love. I found you from www.damomma.com and boy am I glad I did!

That reminds me...will you cater my son's college graduation party in...um, let's see, he's 7 years old...11 years from now he goes to college. If he's like his mother it will take him about 6 years to graduate...so, let's schedule it for May of 2023.

By then I imagine your menu will consist of prune juice and steamed spinach ;-)

As long as they reserve the date and leave you the Hell alone for the next year, it's a good thing!!

Hey, this is more along the lines of proper planning! I may be OCD at times, but I totally agree with planning that far ahead!

Posted by: Mandy at January 14, 2006 05:40 AM

Well, it wasn't me, but it could have been, since on that day I will celebrate my 50th birthday. What would be great fun is if someone were calling to have you do that party on my behalf.
