Lemony Goodness
January 16, 2006

Just a little FYI for those of you in the greater Seattle area.

We met a few friends at McCormick and Schmick's in Bellevue, and while the food was only average, the lemon drop was by far the best I've tasted in a public setting.

OK, ok.... lemon dropS. Plural.

There was more than one lemon drop.

They were delicious little numbers with the right amount of fresh lemon juice to vodka ratio. I've tried plenty, so take my word on this.

I'm sorry I still love the Cosmopolitan. In Seattle, revisit an old (almost boring since SatC ended their last season) favorite at Canlis. A perfect concoction with mandarin vodka, extra lime and all the other usual cosmo suspects.

Yeay for Seattle posts! I know you are from around there (from your photo of my home town, by Deception Pass) but I love to hear about places I know! And I still haven't tried this lemon drop of yours, I guess from all the rave reviews, I should get on it!!

What restaraunt would you say has the best steak in the Seattle area? My husband originally comes from there and they all swear by Morton's but the Morton's here in SoCal pales in comparison to Ruth's Chris....just wondering since we are planning a visit sometime this spring :).

By the way, love your site!

So after reading so many of your lemon drop posts, I finally decided to try one. That is, I ordered one at a holiday party. Bleh. I knew the lemon drop they served could not possibly be the same one that you were talking about.

Jump forward to Saturday night where I made my first timid attempt at mixing a lemon drop. WOW. Amazing. We had three guests over... one woman who immediately agreed to try one, while two guys made fun of us and "girly" sounding drinks. Lo and behold, the most vociferous of the two guys drank out my entire supply of vodka in the form of lemon drops by the end of the night. Lemon drops are our new house drink.

Thanks for all your great posts- but most of all for your recipe for lemon drops!!! :) If you're ever in Boston and need a lemon drop- I'm your contact *grin*

Interestingly enough, the same time you have one of the best Lemon Drop experiences of your life, I had the Martini From Hell. I should have known from that start when the bartender had a 'tude and charged us full price instead of happy hour price. The drink was supposed to have been a "Black Forest Martini", made with black cherry infused vodka. The color of it was gray, like dishwater or the color of water that you would pump out of your basement with a sump pump. I wouldn't drink it. I sent it back and told him to make me a Lemon Drop instead.

Hilly: I don't know Seattle well enough to talk about "best" with authority, but El Gaucho has a most excellent steak, and is certainly the equal of Ruth's Chris in quality of food.

(I'm also not enough of a Chophead to be certain the steak is overall better, as I've only eaten at each a couple of times, but I certainly couldn't call El Gaucho's meat inferior.)
