Holy moly, that's a verbatim copy and she didn't even give you credit!

Posted by: Monica at February 1, 2006 10:09 PM

I didn't even get that far into the reading and knew it was plagiarized from you. I know because I remember laughing my ass off at the entry. You were the reason I decided to try dabbling at food blogging. But I would NEVER try and copy you. That's just wrong!

Posted by: Nerissa at February 1, 2006 10:26 PM

I think it's been deleted now...

Posted by: M3 at February 1, 2006 10:28 PM

she's also lifting batgirl images from people who posted to take part in the batgirl meme over on livejournal last month.

Posted by: ronnie at February 1, 2006 10:39 PM

I think it's been deleted now...

Somehow I managed to comment on it.

I was my usual delicate and discreet self, too.

Posted by: ilyka at February 1, 2006 11:36 PM

She's on Blogger. Report her. There's either a rash of plagiarists on blogger, or it's the same woman who gets caught, 86'd, then starts a new blog. One of these people I googled on their posts and found out where they originated and sent the list to Blogger. Gone!

Heckuva nuisance, though.

Posted by: B'gina at February 2, 2006 12:27 AM

Nope the post is still there, AND she stole the tag line
"A nickel will get you on the subway,
Garlic will get you a seat"
Old Yiddish Proverb
From the Murry Hill 5, food blog.
What the?

Posted by: Alisa at February 2, 2006 02:30 AM

Her next post, 'A few of my favourite things' is also VERY familiar. I don't have the time to look for it in your archives but I got a strange feeling of deja vu when I read it. You can tell what she's written cos it's in the same style as her 'about me' at the side: cocky and rubbish.

Posted by: Kat at February 2, 2006 03:30 AM

Sigh. I clearly do have too much time on my hands. Several of her posts are copied from you: her second ever post is yours with a different character. Where's the fun in blogging if you just copy/paste?

Posted by: Kat at February 2, 2006 03:37 AM

What makes it even more offensive is the inclusion of a Prego-centric chicken parm recipe. UGGGHHH.

Wow, I'd be frickin' pissed.

Posted by: foodmomiac at February 2, 2006 03:40 AM

Also the post from Jan 29 is plagarized: I Googled and found it on Travellady (a wonderful site, well worth visiting, no I'm not affiliated).

I commented on it and am off to report to blogger since her email seems to be disabled.

Pathetic.

Posted by: Yogi at February 2, 2006 04:08 AM

...ummmm....ick!

Whatever they say about copying and flattery... this doesn't feel very flattering.

Posted by: wilsonian at February 2, 2006 05:09 AM

That's unbelievably tacky, and just plain strange. I'm not really getting why she would do that...cook with Prego, I mean! Oh, yeah, the plagiarism sucks, too.

Posted by: Elle at February 2, 2006 05:31 AM

She lifted her second recipe from Jan. 31, along with accompanying text, from about.com. I've commented on that one. Maybe I should report it to about.com?

Jeez, it's like a game! Go to her blog, pick a post and look online for the original!

Posted by: Monica at February 2, 2006 05:52 AM

WOW! I read your blog almost daily. Being a true lurker, of course, I never comment. But this one deserves a resounding applause for you standing up for yourself and your work. Congratulations on being so damn funny that the others copy!!!

Posted by: Georgia at February 2, 2006 05:53 AM

AND the Earl Grey cookie recipe (and the photo!) came from At My Table. Sheesh.

Posted by: Monica again at February 2, 2006 06:05 AM

OMG!! I'm with Kat--what's the point of having a blog if you're not even posting original material. I thought the artistry of cutting and pasting ended after Kindergarten!

Posted by: Amity at February 2, 2006 06:26 AM

HOLY CRAP! Report her copying ass! That sucks! Your writings & recipes are fab! If she's gonna copy you, she HAS to give to credit. I quote fellow bloggers, but I ALWAYS link the quote directly to their blog. Hell, I even title my posts "Stealing thoughts". Shame on her, & good on ya for calling out a fraud!

Posted by: Jess at February 2, 2006 06:59 AM

Yikes! That is scary! Couldn't she have at least mixed it up a little?

Posted by: Spacemom at February 2, 2006 07:06 AM

Wow, that is SO super lame. There are not even words for people that dumb.

Posted by: Joy at February 2, 2006 07:06 AM

I can't believe it HASN'T been deleted. Unreal.

The weirdest thing about copying blog posts is that there is no pressure to write anything. I mean, if you can't think of anything to say that day, just don't post. No big deal. It makes the lying worse, in that there was no real motivation for it at all.

Posted by: Christy at February 2, 2006 07:09 AM

the entire blog seems to be shut down now. (which I think is exactly what she deserves. )

Posted by: carly at February 2, 2006 07:30 AM

Fun, fun, fun...this was like a mini-Law and Order delivered to my desk this morning. Thanks for the entertainment, as ever, FW.

Posted by: Ei at February 2, 2006 09:16 AM

"How pathetic do you have to be to do this?"

Need you ask? :)

Posted by: Amy at February 2, 2006 09:19 AM

Say "BYE-BYE" Hot Buttered Buns.

Don't mess with the Food Whore - she rules!

Posted by: Eileen at February 2, 2006 10:03 AM

i think she's gone...

Posted by: Lil at February 2, 2006 11:12 AM

It's important to take screen shots of these things (or save the page to your website) when they happen, because you know the offending page is not going to be around for very long.

If you search Google for "hotbutteredbuns" and then click on the "Cached" link under the result, you can see the page. That will probably be there for several weeks...

Posted by: Tom Oakes at February 2, 2006 11:26 AM

Batgirl's archived page can be viewed
here
. That'll teach her.

Posted by: Tom Oakes at February 2, 2006 11:38 AM

UGH! What a hooker!

Hope you copyrite your stuff FW, I can see your posts being made into a book someday. Youll make millions ;)

Posted by: Jen at February 2, 2006 12:22 PM

Thank you, everyone. Her blogs are down. She was a major cheating blogger, for lack of better words.

She copied numerous entries of mine, and other bloggers.

Freak.

Posted by: The Food Whore at February 2, 2006 12:22 PM

Whether, we are creative writers or not, blogs are supposed to be about ourselves.

Posted by: Dan at February 2, 2006 12:56 PM

There are some really lame people in the world.

There just went one of them.

Too bad I didn't get there before the blog disappeared, or I could have given a piece of my mind.

Plagiarists piss me off.

Posted by: Barbara at February 2, 2006 02:38 PM

Wow. That truly is unreal. People never cease to amaze me. At least the blog is gone. Jen has a good point, you should copyright your material. You're a fantastic writer and could definitely publish your blog into a book.

Posted by: Kady at February 2, 2006 02:51 PM

My work is copyrighted. And my very good friend is an attorney.

All bases are covered. :-)

Posted by: The Food Whore at February 2, 2006 02:53 PM

Call me evil. Call me demented. Call me a sad person with too much time on her hands. Bottom line, I hate plagiarists. Especially a plagiarist who claims to be a librarian, of all things.

Deleted already - good! How in the world can people do that?!

Posted by: Alida at February 2, 2006 03:42 PM

Okay, okay, who doesn't secretly wish they were the Food Whore??

Of course a good place to start is don't be a lying, thieving moron. :D

Posted by: Damomma at February 2, 2006 03:53 PM

So I just took the time to actually read through all of her ingeniously-titled post "Do A Little Dance.. Make A Little Sauce.. Get Down Tonight!"; she finished the post with a recipe for chicken parm, with Prego as the marinara.

Order of injury, with a side of insult please...

Posted by: Tom Oakes at February 2, 2006 06:11 PM

I also read your blog often, but have never commented before. I can't think of enough adjectives to call 'her', but i'm very very glad that she's gone. How disgusting.
Briony (Australia).

Posted by: Briony at February 2, 2006 09:25 PM

Ugh! What really irritates me is this woman claims to have a MSLS (Master of Library Science)!! Any educated person knows that plagiarism is wrong. But a professional librarian is supposed to be a part of the anti-plagiarism vanguard!! Methinks she DEFINITELY missed the ethics portion of the course of study.

Robin in Ohio (who also holds a Master of Library Science degree and who is throughly disgusted by this unethical brat!)

Posted by: Robin in Ohio at February 3, 2006 04:33 AM

As a fellow blogger (and the #1 Food Whore fan in Kentucky) I have to say the copy cat is just pathetic. On slow news days, I sometimes rack my brainto come up with something to write in my blog. And here this ho comes along and just copies yours. I hope the Blog Police track her down and take away her license to blog. There's no use for people like that in blogdom.

Posted by: Puddin at February 3, 2006 03:58 PM

Sheesh. At least she could throw you a link. What a hack.

Posted by: the pragmatic chef™ at February 3, 2006 04:49 PM

She, or someone like her, stole from my blog also, a few months ago. I outted her, wrote to Blogger, wrote to her. It was.... so maddening.
I can track that to the eventual end of my blogging, it just disgusted me so, now that I think of it.

Posted by: LeeAnn at February 6, 2006 05:06 AM

Ech. That sucks.

Well, good for you for not taking it lying down...

Anyone want to explain the Creative Commons to hbb-girl (or me, for that matter so I don't have to worry about folks like her)?
