That was really an amazingly nice thing that you did. Even without all of the karma you just banked, I think you still have the right to bitch about stupid people and the things they do. Especially when you do it in such an entertaining way! Reading you blog is one of the highlights of my day.

That was an above and beyond the call of duty nice thing. Especially since you didn't take the woman up on her offer to send her husband down to look through the garbage (and nice of the woman to not assume you would dig through the garbage on her child's behalf.)

It reminds me of the first story in Laurie Nataro's Idiot Girl's Action Adventure Guide - the very first story is all about the unplesantries of digging through an entire appartment complex's trash bin. If you haven't had the pleasure, all of her books are painfully hilarious.

I was talking with a fellow customer service slave today and we both agreed that really dealing with people takes a thousand times more skill than picking stocks, designing buildings, etc. You, m'dear, are a nice person.

'Reminds me of my days in school food service & all the calls we used to get about retainers being scraped into the food scrap garbage. We did a bit of digging ... even received a few nice "thank you" gifts ... until we smartened up & let the kids and/or their parents search. 'Was interesting how many declined & said they'd just let the insurance pay for another ... and the incidents also declined radically!
