hmm.... You know, if you had said yes, that exact moment would have been when the health inspector decided to show up. Posted by: Leslie at October 9, 2006 09:37 PM It does take "you gonna eat those?" to a whole new level...! Or how about: "Certainly sir! And I believe the leftover claret on table 17 would be the perfect wine to wash that down!" Amazing. - j Posted by: jeff at October 9, 2006 11:16 PM Where DO these people come from? And, how is it they all seem to find your place??? Oh, FW - you need a l-o-n-g vacation to (hopefully) get away from these NUTS. Posted by: Lisa at October 10, 2006 06:00 AM YUCK! Posted by: Gail at October 10, 2006 07:38 AM I amazed he even bothered to ask permission. Posted by: AuntJone at October 10, 2006 08:09 AM Very very klassy. Posted by: Liz at October 10, 2006 09:36 AM Unbelievable.....it amazes me at what people will try to get for free. (as I type this, I am shaking my head in amazement) It makes me think of a story.....my fiance used to own and operate a cafeteria in a business area and one day a guy walked into the cafeteria and asked for a cup of hot water.....then proceeded to dump ketchup, salt and pepper, stir it up and then put crackers in it....he had made his own "tomato" soup! Needless to say, when he was presented with a bill for one small soup, he wasn't very happy, but they never saw him again at their establishment! (boohoo) Posted by: Carmen at October 10, 2006 11:04 AM I've read of the do-it-yourself "tomato soup" at Horn & Hardarts cafeteria in NYC...during the Depression. Yep, it's definitely yucky (unless the patron was in dire need). As a mom, I became so used to cleaning up my kids' plates after they'd finished (that was usually half my dinner)...nah, I never had that impulse in a restaurant. Posted by: Nana at October 10, 2006 12:38 PM EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Posted by: Mary at October 10, 2006 05:52 PM The tomato soup story reminds me of my grandmother who used to ask for a water & lemons and then proceed to squeeze the lemons into the water and add several packets of sugar, thus, making her own lemonade. "They won't charge you for it," she would say. I hated going out to eat with her because she always rushed you through eating so the waitress could "turn the table" to make more tips. Once, she ripped into my mother when she said we had a nice two-hour lunch at Tavern on the Green duing a recent trip to NYC. She shut up when I told her it was a $100 lunch and I left a $20 tip. AND it was two hours because it was during the Christmas rush and it took nearly an hour to get served. Mom kept asking me,"Do you think they had to go catch my fish first?" Then when you said it "took nearly an hour to get served" I thought it was pretty generous. Posted by: Stephen at October 11, 2006 11:27 AM |
