Holiday Spirit(s)
December 21, 2006

I made hot buttered rum batter for friends this year. It is a recipe I am sure you have all seen 1,000 times, but here it is - an actual recipe - I am actually posting a recipe...

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream together, and add 1 pint of soft vanilla ice cream. Store in the freezer. When serving, mix 3 Tbs. rum batter, 1 jigger rum and fill the rest of the mug with boiling water.

You will find a mug or 3 of this comes in handy when your unwillingness to Trick a party for - 5 people - on Christmas Eve has put you in the same classification as a giant hemorrhoid.

I actually don't mind being called a pain in the ass. It is so much better than humorless bitch - a name I was called just last week in an e-mail.

The Spirit of the holidays lives, people! Warm fuzzies all around!

You? A humorless bitch? I just don't see it. I certainly hope whatever date they wanted suddenly became booked solid.

What the hell is wrong with people? Do they think you're a slave? You get to say no!
Although the creepiest part is that they think berating and name calling will make you want to work for them. That's just so insane, it's creepy.

You know my theory - screw 'em if they can't take a joke.

As for the recipe, thank you! I wanted to make this for Christmas dinner and was just getting ready to drop you a note asking for the recipe. You read my mind (which, in and of itself is frightening...).

I have actually never seen this version of hot buttered rum and I LOVE IT - thank you! I like that it's like a frozen tea bag ready to be used at any moment. Just add alcohol and boiling water! I'm going to give it a try!

Thank you so much for the recipe -- I'm going to get the ingredients today! Warm fuzzies right back at ya, humorous lady!

Excellent recipe! Happy Christmas to you :)

Humorless bitch? Whatever. Sounds like someones just bitter b/c you've (rightfully) made fun of something they've done and they just realized what an ass they were in doing it. Keep up the blog, you're a hoot.

Wow! I only "ruin the magic of Christmas" for kids by not protecting them from any knowledge that the Christmas gifts under their tree were provided by caring, giving people who wanted to make sure they actually received gifts for Christmas instead of Santa. Oh, I am a school social worker by the way. I still think you win in the insult category. And thanks for the recipe. I'll have to file it away for next year--for drinking at home not at school. They'd call me other names for that. Like unemployed.

You are so not humorless. I'm glad you found humor in that awful email!

Hot Buttered Rum. How very Harry Potter. Thanks for the recipe!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I love this Hot Buttered Rum recipe! Have not made in a while, thanks for posting it I think I shall have to make some to get through Christmas Eve. Hubby's family is coming over. Me no like them too much...sipping alcohol in a mug looks less obvious that I need to drink. Have a Merry Christmas and thank you for the many, many laughs in 2006.
