May 04, 2007
It was a lovely night. The rain had stopped and it was set to be a gorgeous sunset. The Husband and I were able to go out for a little pizza and some beer and good conversation before his meeting. And on our little stroll out to the car, still talking and laughing, he got ahead of me to open my door (Because He does that - so cool) and then turned around to say something to me - and I wasn't there. I was on the ground. Turns out a new pair of shoes (ones I had not twisted on the pavement, yet) when placed on wet pavement, and with the aid of one simple glass of beer makes for the kind of moment we can only call 'typical' in my world. I just - slipped. I was walking, talking, laughing - and BOOM. I was down. My recovery time was amazing, though. I was up as fast as I was down. They need to make falling an Olympic event. I would totally rock the gold. I would fall of the award podium, of course, but I would still rock it. Posted by Foodwhore at May 4, 2007 01:03 PM
You seem to have the worst luck trying to stand up on your own two feet, FW! :) Posted by: Carmen at May 4, 2007 01:34 PM I think you'll be silver and I'll be gold. I trip even when the floor is smooth and I'm barefoot (I know, i know, even I wonder how that's possible) Posted by: renee at May 4, 2007 04:36 PM I would be a contender for that medal - I tripped, flat on my face on my first date with my now husband three steps out the door. Ugh. I tripped so much as a kid, that "I always do that" (said as I hopped back up) was my mantra! Posted by: ikate at May 4, 2007 05:55 PM I would definitely give you a run for the money in the "falling down stairs" portion of the competition!! We are kindred klutzes, you and I. :) Posted by: Jen Mathis at May 5, 2007 01:27 PM FW - I want you to 'bone-up' on that calcium. Seems that so far your falls have not broken any bones, but that luck may not hold out. I do not usually laugh at someone's pain, but your stories about falling never fail to make me laugh,,,,,sorry. I love your site. I look forward to every new post. Posted by: sue.g at May 5, 2007 04:16 PM Bah, I tripped when I walked during college graduation. It's on like a dozen people's camcorders. Beat that. Posted by: Garrett at May 5, 2007 08:59 PM I fell off my flip-flops today. I probably wouldn't win an award for falling down, but am a strong contender for the gold medal in Dropping Stuff. Posted by: Barb at May 6, 2007 04:56 AM In case I haven't said it lately, I love you! I have permanent bruise rings around both knees that came from: 1. a spectacular fall in front of the company security cameras. I landed like Al Jolson performing "Mammy." and 2. a fall UP the stairs at my condo, resulting in two black eyes, a broken nose and an art gallery of bruises down my sides. I never realized it was possible to trip while wearing flats.
Posted by: Peggy at May 6, 2007 03:36 PM Your blog is indeed wonderful, and your falling stories very entertaining. To add my bit - and let you laugh at our mishaps, for a change - I'll ocnfess that I sprained my foot while standing barefoot in my kitchen. I still haven't figured out how exactly it happened, but I am glad to live in New Zealand where a little thing called the ACC covers all 'accident' related costs... a state sponsored klutz-iness insurance! Yey! Posted by: Frederique at May 7, 2007 12:08 AM As the girl who tripped on stage at graduation (my motorboard went one way while the shoes went another ..... but I held onto that diploma!!) --- I can relate to your lack of grace. My mom wasted her money on ballet lessons for me.;) Posted by: Alex at May 7, 2007 04:10 PM |
