Seriously...
November 04, 2008

There's an intern in my kitchen. A mentoring project - a chance to give back. And - a favor for a friend.

First order of duty - wash the pans. It is everyone's first order of duty. I've yet to meet anyone in this world who hasn't had to scrub a stock pot - or 100.

I was headed to the walk-in cooler when she asked, "Um, excuse me. Yeah, um, how do I keep the water from going down the drain?"

Seriously.

You...what? Well, maybe she meant...er...I have no idea.

That one actually left me speechless.

I'm guessing she was looking for a drain stopper/flip switch for the sink so she could create soap-bath for the pans to soak in. It doesn't seem so odd to me. I guess she could have phrased it better.

She probably couldn't find the drain stop, but the wording made coffee come out my nose!

I'm with spacemom and choyoyo. it was probably just bad phrasing but darn if it wasn't funny!

how the heck does she take a bath?

Posted by: Tonja at November 5, 2008 11:56 AM

Tonja: Well, my bath has a drain setup radically different from my sink.

I've never used a restaurant sink, but I don;t imagine they work like my tub either.

Come on now...don't be a hater Food Whore.
Not everyone grew up in commercial kitchens and
instinctively know where to look for the drain lever thingie underneath, or have been in those that you have to jam a bar mop in drain to stop the water from draining.
She was probably looking for one of those ooky Rubber Maid plugs with or without the chain.

Just so you know I am not a complete beast - there are 3 large white rubber stoppers hanging on a hook right above the faucet.

She did not know how to plug any sink, not just mine.

Well now FW, that's a different story.
Deets deets deets!

Posted by: Jen in WI at November 5, 2008 03:20 PM

hmmm, that sounds like the interns we've had, I think cluelessness is a requirement

Posted by: jen at November 5, 2008 06:39 PM

You put an upside down plate over the drain, isn't that how everybody (that doesn't have the working lever closure) do it?

Posted by: ntsc at November 6, 2008 02:06 AM

O. M. G. I guess that is going to be a bigger favor than you realized!
