*Insert appropriate Seinfeld Episode jokes and giggles here*
And he only wants to be poured half a cup of coffee. If you even go so much as a drip over half a cup, he will make you bring him a new cup. And he only wants his bread with his entree during dinner, and he only wants his clam chowder luke warm. So please put it in a bowl, walk away for a bit, and then bring it to his table. I am sure you are all thinking, "Why do you deal with this guy?" And believe me when I say I ask myself this 400 times a day because the coffee and the chowder thing are just the tip of the iceberg. But in the last two months he has come in ever single day. Yesterday was no exception. Except yesterday he must have grown tired of us opening a little later than normal due to the holiday because upon his arrival he bypassed everyone and sat at Table 7. He did not say hello, he did not wait to be seated, he just rushed right to his table. And the table had just been cleared of dirty dishes, but not wiped down and reset. So before he even sat down he snapped his fingers and said, "SOMEONE PLEASE COME AND CLEAN MY DOMAIN!".

That reminds me of the character Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) of the movie "As Good As It Gets". What a character :) Posted by: Foodista at January 3, 2009 03:09 AM "MY DOMAIN"?? Yep, you're King of the World, Ted. I hope at least he tips well. Posted by: Dr Alice at January 3, 2009 05:49 AM I too thought instantly of As Good As It Gets. A little OCD perhaps? Posted by: Melodyk99 at January 3, 2009 07:02 AM you really ARE a freak magnet, aren't you? happy new year! Posted by: Tonja at January 3, 2009 07:21 AM Nuthin' like hot clams to spoil your appetite ;OP) Posted by: Shelley at January 3, 2009 10:55 AM Sounds like he has Asberger Syndrome. (I plagerized from the Internet here...) Individuals with AS can exhibit a variety of characteristics and the disorder can range from mild to severe. Persons with AS show marked deficiencies in social skills, have difficulties with transitions or changes and prefer sameness. They often have obsessive routines and may be preoccupied with a particular subject of interest. They have a great deal of difficulty reading nonverbal cues (body language) and very often the individual with AS has difficulty determining proper body space. Often overly sensitive to sounds, tastes, smells, and sights, the person with AS may prefer soft clothing, certain foods, and be bothered by sounds or lights no one else seems to hear or see. It's important to remember that the person with AS perceives the world very differently. Therefore, many behaviors that seem odd or unusual are due to those neurological differences and not the result of intentional rudeness or bad behavior, and most certainly not the result of "improper parenting". http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/aswhatisit.html There's a really good book out about it as told from a first person perspective. It's called Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's by John Elder Robison published in 2007. Dude called his wives "Unit One" and "Unit Two." Posted by: Aimee at January 3, 2009 01:14 PM If Ted behaves this way in public can you imagine what he does at home???? Crazy. Posted by: sue.g at January 4, 2009 06:58 AM |
